'Err' message on D80

1. fishmonk4 October 2010, 21:02 GMT +02:00

I am getting a pretty persistent 'Err' message on D80.
I have been able to take a very few photos, but mostly the Error message prevents any changes being made (i.e. changing ISO or shutter speed etc) or action taken (i.e. taking pictures).
I have changed the lens, battery & SD card.

Any ideas of a next step before the ubiquitously expensive camera repair shop trip?

Sounds like a firmware problem. Perhaps there is an update available from Nikon.

Did you try to use the restore function in your D80?. It works for mine! Good luck Dan

@3 yes - it didn't work... thanks anyway. will keep trying...

Oh - it's the thingummy near the shutter curtain or something like a vague unknown whadyacallum jobby. It shouldn't be more than £200 to fix & may be ready in 3 - 6 weeks.

I thought they were taking the p155, but all 4 outlets I visited said similar...

Grrr

So much for my project365 one pic a day...

sob.

Sorry to hear it is a mechanical problem in a delicate place on the camera. Some things just break no matter how well you care for your equipment. Hopefully for you it will be the three weeks and not the six.

I'm sorry about your error in your D80 Dan!. It's terrible to stay 3-6 weeks with no camera.
