Wonder if the other site was gone dead

1. johnnyberg5 August 2013, 16:31 GMT +02:00

For several days scx has been "out of order" due to maintance, they said. But I wonder if the last image has been downloaded from there....... what do you think?

2. ColinBrough5 August 2013, 19:08 GMT +02:00

Been wondering the same thing...

3. DineshDevgan6 August 2013, 8:52 GMT +02:00

same here, anybody have idea, when will it start again

4. xymonau6 August 2013, 14:49 GMT +02:00

Well, we will become the best alternative to sxc if people continue to upload good photos and graphics. We already have many exclusive pictures and our quality is equal to and often much better than sxc's recent uploads. Our terms are very similar. We are more family friendly and therefore suitable for school use.

Get onto other sites and promote RGB so people know where they can find our excellent galleries. :o)

Nobody that we know knows what Getty is doing with the site.

Very possible they are done with it.

They didn't announce the maintenance before they turned off the site which is something they haven't done in the past.

Makes me curious too.

The only possible reason for such a long lasting unanounced maintenance must be a very severe crash, but that's what backups are there for.

I suppose they considered SXC to stand in the way for their paysites, so they possibly let it die this way.

Three days ago I sent a e-mail to Getty Images and to iStockphotos and asked what is going on with sxc.hu. They did not respond. Makes me wonder....

8. drow6 August 2013, 19:05 GMT +02:00

well, i guess that saves me the work of ever removing my photos from sxc. onward!

9. michaelaw6 August 2013, 19:51 GMT +02:00

The last few weeks it seems they accepted every single image that was uploaded. I noticed some pictures of POOREST quality in their new photos section. So I re-uploaded some of my oldest, previously rejected, pictures without further editing, and they all got accepted. I suppose they wanted photo quality on sxc to decrease to make people move on to istockphoto.

The site was active on the first day of August.

The next day (Aug 2) they were down for maintenance and have been that way since.

11. krayker7 August 2013, 13:33 GMT +02:00

wait and watch...

12. micromoth7 August 2013, 13:33 GMT +02:00

I'm already starting to notice an increase in downloads from my gallery here on RGB Stock since SXC went down. No doubt SXC's owners hoped when RGB Stock started that it wouldn't come to anything, but as that is patently not the case perhaps they are now giving up.

The numbers of new members and downloads has had a sharp rise. Naturally people are looking for alternatives to sxc - and here we are. :o)

Ooops - which is a re-post of an original from PetaPixel, who I tipped off... http://petapixel.com/2013/08/06/stock-photo-service-stock-xchng-down-for-days-users-left-in-the-dark/

Great link Colin.

17. xymonau8 August 2013, 14:23 GMT +02:00

Well done, Colin.

18. crisderaud8 August 2013, 16:55 GMT +02:00

You are the Colin who disclosed the issue to PetaPixel. Splendid!!

You did us all a wonderful service creating these links bringing the issue into the public eye.

It's been a week now and yet the maintenance service message hasn't updated or changed in any way. Perhaps they don't care about keeping their members informed.

19. Ayla879 August 2013, 6:27 GMT +02:00

Now they have finished their maintenance work and don't even say sorry because it took so long. Nasty service.

Site does appear to be partially back, but layout is horrible and not everything is working - like the maintenance is not finished......

21. debsch9 August 2013, 12:09 GMT +02:00

Yes, the forums button goes nowhere.... They probably don't want their ears blasted with abuse from disappointed users...

22. ColinBrough9 August 2013, 12:34 GMT +02:00

Forums button hasn't gone anywhere for about a year and a half... They actually had removed the button for most of the last 6 months. Its my own photos I still can't get to - the layout has come back online... I haven't checked yet whether the format of the HTML has changed substantially (which might have happened had the backend been being changed). Did they "test the waters" for closure with a maintenance shutdown and decide it was too messy, or were they just being really slow at maintenance?!?

23. crisderaud10 August 2013, 6:50 GMT +02:00

They still haven't taken the time or had the courtesy to post a clue in the site news column why they were down for a week for unscheduled maintenance.

Rude and disrespectful is my opinion.

I suppose it's back to business as usual for them, until it goes down again.

24. debsch10 August 2013, 9:45 GMT +02:00

Anyone know if the 'contact user' link is working on the other site? I've logged in with a new account and sent a message to myself via the contact user link and haven't yet received the message.

EDIT - yes it works.

25. xymonau10 August 2013, 10:14 GMT +02:00

I was banned from there so I never go. I know it was a good site when Peter had it, but the people who took over were pigs. I was banned for continuing to make jokes and light banter in the forum against their instructions. And yet, my name keeps coming up on Google searches as having a gallery there. Let's hope the maintenance included removing that. I want no association with them.
