I loathe it. People are sometimes shocked when I say that, but it's the worst time of the year. In my job, there are a thousand things to do. And it's always the time people feel everyone else is having a great time and they should be, too. It's not a religious holiday - Jesus wasn't born in the winter, and December 25th has been celebrated in lots of pagan cultures well before it was adopted by Rome.
I'm alone this year, and not complaining. It would be nice to see family on the day (just because of the girls), but I'll see them a couple of days later.
It's going to be a hot one here. The temperature is slowly rising, and the nights are getting warm now. December 1 is the first day of summer here.

Yeah Christmas is one massive rip off, blown out of all proportion, Kids want everything they see on tv, banks want you to spend more than you have, and people get presents they dont want, To me Christmas is a time of giving to those who have little.. Lordy lordy i,m sounding like Ebenezer Scrooge aint i!!!

So many people are starving in the horn of Africa - and elsewhere - and we spend obscene amounts of money on shiny things. I read a story this week about aid workers in Africa stopping a woman to talk to her. She had a half kilo of maize flour, which she had begged, but the person who "gave" it to her insisted that she pay for it the next day. She was going home to mix it with the dirty water they had to walk many kilometres to get, and that was all the food she and six children had for the day, and no prospects of getting more. She had walked many kilometres just to beg for that. There was a photo of her, and my heart went out to her. She is only one of so many. We can't just sit idly by and let all these people starve when we have plenty. They don't deserve to die.

No one should die on this earth, no one should starve or die of no water, there is enough food and water to feed the whole planet, the only reason it doesn't happen is greed...

There are a lot of people on the planet - and the Duke of Edinburgh has been quoted saying something very similar - who believe the excess people should die of starvation, war, disease - whatever it takes - because there are too many people. The ideal population is 500 million. They seem to not care that every human feels the same as each other, and poverty and the above things cause great suffering.

We are in charge of this planet at the moment, we are responsible for all Un-Necessary deaths here, if every country on the planet offered freely the hand of help to these poor soles the world would become a better place, As for anyone saying excess people on the planet should die, then that in its self is the comment of a greedy self centred person, someone who would not even give their seat up on a bus never mind give up what they have to help others..

Well, we can each do our best, and I do believe one day there will be a reckoning. I need to do a lot more than I have done.
I saw a video by an organisation called Asian Aid. They work in India and Nepal, etc. They take orphans and educate them, they run a blind school and a deaf school, they do free hysterectomies on poor Nepalese women who have dreadful prolapses (the Nepalese men don't work - they sit around being waited on, and the women are expected to have their baby, then get straight up and start hauling loads again, so prolapse is a huge problem there). They do other things, too. There was an Indian fellow with a diability - he could only get around by walking on all fours, and his knees bent the opposite way. They saved him as a child, and he since came second in all of India in his chemistry degree. He said the woman who started all of this always told him he was as good as everyone else. I cried when I saw him. And there were so many others.
