Site Progress Report

Up to date news on what our developers are working on and where they are at.

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/rgbstock.com#trafficstats

You can see at the Alexa link that our highest traffic ranking is in Russia. When we go to Google Analytics it shows that the greatest volume of traffic comes from the US.

What I like seeing the most are all the new members and new photos and that everyone here is happy. Things just seem to keep getting better every day!

You are right, Cris. These stats are fabulous, but the feeling on this site here, the atmosphere in this community, is even greater :)

I am somehow a bit circumspect about alexa ranking. google has a better and more accurate way of ranking - its search engine is the most ubiquitous and so presumably its metrics have better reliability. next, there's google analytics - the data comes from the site - accurate, the only variable would be where the site stands against sites that do not have the analytics script.

coming to alexa, if im not wrong, their results are compiled from users have alexa tool installed. if thats so - then alexa's data is not truly representative and not very accurate. also, I'm not sure if as many sites have the alexa metrics tool as like urchin/ google analytics - whose reach is tremendous.

things might have changed once amazon picked alexa, and they might have other resources from amazon's servers to enhance its data source - amazon provides huge cloud computing resource and they do get close to google in terms of reach (but not ubiquitous reach like google, since its a default search engine in most markets).

The best rating is rising number of users and downloads... And today we should have the rise as far as the sxc.hu is down to some weather problems in Calgary.

78. crisderaud9 April 2010, 17:46 GMT +02:00

You are right Michal. "The best rating is rising number of users and downloads... "

We have over 30 new members already today and the number's still rising as it is only morning in Calgary.

I welcome the new members and hope they choose to make rgbstock their primary source for high quality free stock photos.

I love the new downloads gallery of images! (In the personal tool bar.) It will also help to disclose people who might be manipulating downloads. Thanks, Jay.

80. mzacha11 April 2010, 10:14 GMT +02:00

Hmm, not sure if it will help us to disclose people manipulating... That is "just" the gallery of images each of us has downloaded. It will help us to get to the images we downloaded previously ;). Anyway, good addiction. Thanks, Jay!

81. xymonau11 April 2010, 10:48 GMT +02:00

Well, the admins will be able to see.

82. fishmonk11 April 2010, 12:49 GMT +02:00

Yes - great addition. Like a lightbox!

83. GerbenVanErkelens12 April 2010, 22:45 GMT +02:00

Like the new downloadspage also :D Nice job!

84. crisderaud14 April 2010, 15:16 GMT +02:00

You are now able to arrange a gallery by the number of downloads. The function button is at the top right of any gallery you visit including your own.

You can also switch back to order by date, either newest or oldest first.

85. xymonau15 April 2010, 11:44 GMT +02:00

There is also a list of our newest members from the last seven days. Great idea!

86. Ayla8715 April 2010, 13:33 GMT +02:00

@85 Yes, nice addition. Perhaps a "Welcome to all of you" at the top of this page would sound good :)

Michael

It seems that the ranking is different depending on the browser used. Not just with RGB but with other sites also. Odd?

88. xymonau18 April 2010, 5:41 GMT +02:00

You can now edit each image by clicking on "edit" beside the large thumbnail. So much easier. Thanks, Jay and Lennie.

89. crisderaud21 April 2010, 18:28 GMT +02:00

I have some statistics to throw out here which helps to give you an idea of our progress.

Our Alexa number is down to around 290,000 so we have moved into the 2s and headed for the goal of less than 100,000.

For the last 30 days are numbers are:

200,000 Page Views
15,000 Visits
13 Pages per Visit
9:16 Minutes avg. time on site
16.3 percent visits from search engines of which 15 percent is from Google.

The bottom line is , we are making advances on all fronts. Our membership is growing as well as our gallery. People are spending more time on the site and looking at more pages.

If only there were a switch we could turn on to increase the amount of downloads. Believe when I say I am looking for it and will throw the switch if I find it.

Suggestions are welcome as always. :)

90. xymonau22 April 2010, 0:37 GMT +02:00

Great stats! Unlike television dramas, real life takes time to develop, and this site is progressing very well, considering it's short life so far.

91. mzacha22 April 2010, 13:55 GMT +02:00

Great score... All we have to do is to keep the path... and upload more good shots.

A monthly newsletter with some rankings or most popular shots of the month can be a good idea too.

92. jazza22 April 2010, 22:40 GMT +02:00

We are planning to have a newsletter in the future. For now you can subscribe to this future newsletter on your profile page.

We have an new statistics page too.

Amazing...

94. krayker23 April 2010, 5:34 GMT +02:00

chugging along nicely

95. Ayla8723 April 2010, 6:20 GMT +02:00

@92 This new stats page is very lovely designed and informative, thanks a lot!

Michael

96. mzacha23 April 2010, 12:00 GMT +02:00

there are many searches and not to many downloads. Does it mean some people do not find anything good for them or they just download the thumbnail and use it on the web?

97. Ayla8723 April 2010, 12:46 GMT +02:00

Michal, I think you misinterpreted the stats page. The numbers in brackets do not say, how often a keyword was searched, These numbers tell you, how many photos were found with this search-keyword.

But you are right anyhow - for many webdesigners it may be fully sufficient to use the thumbnail. This is one of the reasons why I would find it interesting so see how often each photo was viewed by a user.
