45 days minimum? That's a lifetime...

5. saavem23 March 2010, 13:47 GMT +01:00

It's more than one lifetime....

Really don't know what to say, there is not anything else you can do. It's really sad to hear though.

I wonder that as these cameras get more advanced there may be more electronics to go wrong that only the manufacturer can fix. You can only take good care of what you have and hope the solid state circuitry and programming of the firmware hold up. Not much else a guy can do.

I don't like being without my camera - even though it's a piece of garbage! LOL If I go for a drive and I forget it, I kick myself. I hope it returns quickly. Aren't we terrible addicts? :)

Sometimes I think manufacturers do it on porpose, technologies and machine set-ups to last 45 days less than the two year warranty. What was the name of that theory? This is getting real nasty.

I feel better when all of you understand me. Thanks Cris, Thanks Dez, Thanks Salva
:)

Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence is the term you are looking for.

[1] is the process of a product becoming obsolete or non-functional after a certain period or amount of use in a way that is planned or designed by the manufacturer.

I think the best exemple for that are the mobile phones. I'm sure they are made to last one year.
But in our camera.... bufffff... such cameras might have a 5 years warranty. Most of us probably love our camera, not our phones.

12. decar6624 March 2010, 23:56 GMT +01:00

Yep, that's it Chris, thx.

13. saavem25 March 2010, 6:43 GMT +01:00

Salva, Cris
It's a crime to do it!

14. crisderaud25 March 2010, 9:32 GMT +01:00

It is a crime to do it but they don't do it with cameras of the dslr quality.

Durable good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durable_goods

Your camera is under the category of durable good. They are made to last over three and as much as 15 years. Check the list on Wikipedia and you see photographic equipment is listed as an example of a durable good.

I am certain there is no planned obsolescence built into the Canon product as the competition in the market is too high and Canon has a reputation to uphold.

Unfortunately, you just got one that needs factory repair. It happens with Nikons too.

15. saavem25 March 2010, 14:57 GMT +01:00

Good to know it Cris!

16. weirdvis25 March 2010, 17:06 GMT +01:00

My Canon is going on for five years old and, touch wood, it's never let me down so far.

Hope you get yours fixed ASAP. I'de be miserable not having mine for so long.

17. saavem25 March 2010, 18:34 GMT +01:00

@ Great!. I hope when mine return will begin a long period with no problems!
Thank you all by your support and understanding!

20. xymonau7 April 2010, 16:16 GMT +02:00

Miguel, that's excellent!

21. saavem7 April 2010, 16:27 GMT +02:00

I will use the cam in a few hours, after job!
It's excelent, I can't wait!
Thanks Marja & Dez!

22. crisderaud7 April 2010, 16:42 GMT +02:00

I'm glad for you!

That's a whole month sooner than you thought.

23. fishmonk7 April 2010, 17:55 GMT +02:00

Nice one, so pleased for you. I don't know how I'd have coped...

24. saavem7 April 2010, 19:21 GMT +02:00

@22 I can't believe it Cris but its again with me, its a fact, just 2 weeks!
@23 Thanks Dan, it's easy, i could not take pictures in last two weeks!. But I can now again. Maybe impotence and desperation are the keys about your comment.

25. jonfletch12 April 2010, 12:34 GMT +02:00

I'm having a nightmare now! The zoom is stuck on one of my lenses (18-200), my tablet is broken, Elements is slower than a snail and I have just had to get new parts for my tripod!
