Site Progress Report

Up to date news on what our developers are working on and where they are at.

266. lennie21 May 2011, 15:45 GMT +02:00

@groningen / @jazza I had an iPad I could test today, I tested in Safari on the iPad, but I don't see the problem on that either. :-(

I do see a problem with the lightbox though, it gets the screensize wrong or something and it is in the middle of the page instead of at the bottom of the screen.

267. jazza21 May 2011, 22:42 GMT +02:00

The lightbox, hmm. It is at the bottom because of the position:fixed property. That doesn't work on the iPad? Dont know.

268. Groningen21 May 2011, 22:48 GMT +02:00

@265: OK

269. GerbenVanErkelens3 June 2011, 19:35 GMT +02:00

I see the tweet and facebook like button on photo's, cool! isn't it wise to add the new +1 button too?

270. lennie4 June 2011, 0:35 GMT +02:00

@GerbenVanErkelens Cris ( crisderaud) has already suggested it (by email). :-)

I'm sick at the moment and I don't know what Jay thinks of it so I didn't add it, maybe Jay will.

There are sites that have 20 buttons, I don't think we would want to do that, so we are trying to be a little conservative with them.

271. Ayla874 June 2011, 14:14 GMT +02:00

Funny: I wondered what Gerben was writing about. I only found the Like-Buttons after I deactivated my Ad blocker :)

Nice addition, this feature.

I have been wondering why there is no category for sunrises. We have a sunset category, but not a sunrise. I guess that most do the same as I: Pick the sunset category for sunrises too; but couldn't we just add sunrise to the sunset category?

273. xymonau9 June 2011, 14:01 GMT +02:00

I would like to see a complete re-write of the categories.

274. GerbenVanErkelens14 June 2011, 14:23 GMT +02:00

@lennie Okay that's clear :D. I would limit the buttons to Facebook Like, Tweet, +1 and StumbleUpon. Those are the most used throughout the Internet it seems :D....and generate some nice traffic

275. crisderaud19 June 2011, 5:05 GMT +02:00

Alexa Traffic Rank: 80,588

We should drop into the seventy thousands sometime soon. Each ten thousand down from 100,000 is a milestone!

276. weirdvis19 June 2011, 8:16 GMT +02:00

Wow! That's encouraging news. Thanks Cris.

277. xymonau19 June 2011, 9:40 GMT +02:00

We are doing so well for a relatively new site. The quality of our images speaks for itself.

278. lusi23 June 2011, 11:25 GMT +02:00

Alex traffic under 80.000! Congratulations to everyone!!

279. xymonau23 June 2011, 11:49 GMT +02:00

Tell me, is this the count of actual visitors, or does it include uploads, downloads and posts in the forum as well?

280. Ayla8723 June 2011, 12:40 GMT +02:00

I think Alexa does not focus so much on page views, it is more about ranking the popularity of a site on the internet. Most important are the links spread all over the internet pointing to RGB and thus showing its popularity. It means that we are the 80.000th most popular site all over the internet. Still a little way to go to number 1, but we have come very far indeed :)

@279 The number is just the relative position of how busy our site is. The number is the number of other sites.

We are at Alexa Traffic Rank: 78,994. There are 78,993 sites busier than ours on the internet according to Alexa. How Alexa determines how "busy" a site is may be questionable as well as what statistical data Alexa uses, where they get it and how recent the data is.

Bottom line is we started out at over 6 million and now we are approaching the more elite group of sites on the Web.

282. xymonau24 June 2011, 1:27 GMT +02:00

The reason I asked was that in the early 90s a friend in America and I used to "chat" on a site from Canada. We would just post messages then update the screen. We hadn't discovered the joys of Messenger services at that stage! LOL Anyway, we spoke daily, and because of our input, the site (it was religious) ended up with some high ranking out of lots of similar sites. The moderator was surprised - and so were we - but we eventually worked out it was us. Once we stopped, his ranking fell dramatically. I don't know any further details, but the posts definitely contributed. So, I am wondering if more forum posts would assist our ranking. Just a thought.

Here is a look at the Google Analytics chart for our rise in visits for the last 30 days.

did something happen around June 20th?

also - front page looks really nice, clean & uncluttered. Great job!

286. lennie22 July 2011, 14:08 GMT +02:00

We think it was this one:

Probably a newsletter.

287. johnnyberg30 July 2011, 15:23 GMT +02:00

I can see that the site is undergoing a slow transformation into the font: Times Roman....... Why is that?

It does not, in my oppinion, look good to have several fonts runing in ordinary text.

288. xymonau30 July 2011, 16:00 GMT +02:00

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't look "right" with the rest of the layout.

289. fishmonk1 August 2011, 1:52 GMT +02:00

agreed - I thought things had just moved on, as I've not been around much, but glad others are feeling the same. Simple clean modern looking font is better arial, verdana or whatever we had before would improve the look...

Apart from that the layout is lovely - it all works smoothly & quickly & the numbers continue to swell - great job all involved!
