That suits, we have ascension day and in (northern and eastern) Germany all men (Daddy or not) go out and celebrate it as fathers day with beer or vine and they go for canoeing, or stumpling around with a hand car full of alcoholic drinks and they wear partly fancy dresses or their clubdresses. They meet for BBQ and we women can fetch them later from somewhere, when all the stories are told and all the drinks are drunken (and our men also).

Here in Hamburg it is good cause most every group is going to make some nonsense on the water or near by. All canals and the river Alster are full with little decoreted boat,
But I think Berlin has a long tradition in that too.

Sounds great. I've hardly been to Germany at all, except on the autobahn, which doesn't really count. But my wife and I did go to Hamburg once for the Christmas market and on over the border to Salzburg for similar reasons. We had a great time. Some day we must see Berlin...

I would like to meet you here, but christmas markets are famous at Nürnberg or Dresden or not far away from here at Lübeck (where the almond paste comes from) or Lüneburg with its old houses and with a lot of atmosphere
