RGBStock.com launch date.

4 January, 2010

I believe that is the date that the site adopted the url http://www.rgbstock.com/

The first week in 2010 will be easy to remember years from now.

That puts this site at just 10 days old. There has been a lot of action in those ten days but there is still a long way to go before the site achieves a steady flow of new photos coming in as the current approved photos are being downloaded.

I invited most of the members here from sxc by leaving comments on your photos with the link to this site. About one out of ten people invited decided to join. More will come as word gets around and people read their comments and find that this site represents a new beginning for the success we had achieved in the past.

Finding photographers to contact was much easier than finding the names of the people who commonly download the photos for use. I am presently working on a plan to attract users /downloaders to RGBStock. Any suggestions to direct the users here will be appreciated.

I am not a member of the staff of RGBStock but just one of the volunteers who are helping to make this site a well known name in the competitive market for free stock photos on the internet.

Everyone of us get mails, like " can i use your image for ... " . It's easy to put in the reply something like " you can also visit rgbstock.com" or similar.
It's not much but it's a start.

Ervin is right. And people are more likely to click on a link in an email that's been sent personally to them.

As I mentioned elsewhere, if we have images on sxc, we can make those written permission only, and put a link in the description to RGBstock, saying the image can be downloaded from here without written permission.

Anyone who is a member of a design forum can post the link on that forum. When we encounter a discussion about free stock images, or find sites with a list of such places, we can sign up and post a comment or fill in the contact form and let the site owner know about RGB.

I noticed some of you have also added http://www.rgbstock.com/user/yourname to the signature on other fora. Even non-photo-related sites. Like a Free Software discussion forum. This really does help, having more links point to http://www.rgbstock.com/ in general is definitely a good thing.

I'm not saying you should spam every site out there, but just pointing to a site where some of the (other) things you did can't hurt.

@lennie,
yeah, spamming does not help us. we should work towards a slow building process here. I have done my bit by writing to anyone who had emailed me (via sxc mail to ask permission to use my images - thats in the hundreds) - just dropped a line saying this is my new gallery, head over here for my new images!

btw, thanks for all the hard work rgbstock crew!

I think we can now say:

The site reached 20k in a months' time after RGBStock.com went online.
