unknown words

just out of interest are the keywords vetted at all or do they just get straight into the database?

for instance, if i spelled a word in an incorrect & nonsensical way would it just be added automatically?

At this point, it just gets added.

The search engine does understand similair english words though, when searching. Like car and cars.

For now we left it the way it is, so we can concentrate on other things and have a choice to replace the search engine without loosing information.

I see. Thanks.

Hi Dan.

There are times when misspelled words are deliberately accepted. Not everyone uploading has English for a main language and not everyone searching has English for a main language. Many prime English speakers can't spell either.

E.g. lily is often misspelled as lilly or even lillie. You will find a lily using all three variations.

Often you will find misspelled words in the rolling search stats. Sometimes there's a hit, sometimes not.

We aim to please. :0)

I had originally asked because I added keyword "TWOC" - "taken without consent" to an image of mine. When I searched a couple of days after the keywords were edited no images came up when searching.

However, it was just me being a little impatient, as even before Lennie had answered the keyword was showing up in a search.

Thanks, both, for your responses.

I would have accepted TWOC. I've nicked one or two people for twocking in the past

Evil laff.

Excellent -
I have just worked out that "NOT" works in a search capacity as does 'AND'.

eg "balls" brings up all kinds of stuff
but
"balls NOT xmas" gets rid of most baubles...

Great stuff!

We still need a small help text there don't we?

I think so - because your hard work is going to waste, as most people don't know about smarter searching... or forget to use it (I'm sure it's not just me).
I don't often see AND or NOT in the recent searches.

It could be a balloon type pop up reminder as the mouse hovers?
