What are you celebrating today?

1. weirdvis5 March 2011, 9:46 GMT +01:00

Always a popular thread at the other place.

I'll kick this one off.

It was my birthday the other day. I was expecting a bottle of my favourite perfume (I've been dropping hints I was running low) and woke up to a Land Rover Freelander on the drive. I've always wanted a 4x4 and now I've finally got one courtesy of my Mum and my Significant Other Half.

Okay, so it's not a new one and it's not an all singing, all dancing model, but that doesn't bother me. It's a freaking Freelander, dudes!

Mine's a white soft top like the one in the foreground.

Downside - I'll have to fund my own bottle of smellies. Oh hold on - there's Mother's Day coming up...

Hey, what a feast, Lynne. And belated congrats for your birthday, btw.
Now keep rocking the roads, it must feel just marvelously great :)
When will he be delivered? And do you give your cars names?

I sometimes name cars. I once had a metallic pink MG Metro Rio Grande that I dubbed "The Raspberry Express" and a VW Golf TDi was "The Roller Skate". My beloved Vauxhall Vectra was "The Rocket" and my unlamented Rover 45 was "That piece of crap on the drive". My prior car is a Nissan Tino which we are keeping (we've just sold my other half's ageing Avensis) because my Mum won't be able to get into the Land Rover. The Tino doesn't have a name but it's a lovely car to drive. Such a shame they don't make them anymore.

Several cars from my youth were termed "Rust Buckets" because that's all I could afford. I celebrated the first time I sold a car on rather than have it scrapped. :0)

And yes, apart from that Rover 45, I love my cars.

Wow! That's a fabulous present! Looks like a neat little car, Lynne. Congratulations! And many happy returns for your birthday!

5. gesinek5 March 2011, 12:04 GMT +01:00

It must have been a great day for you. I wish all the best for you to your birthday and for your new ride!

6. jazza5 March 2011, 12:23 GMT +01:00

What's wrong with a Avensis? I drive one ;)
Congratulations Lynne, that is a great gift!

I celebrate the fact my son passed his first swim test:

He looks so proud! Isn't he clever? The milestones are so exciting with your kids.

8. weirdvis5 March 2011, 13:46 GMT +01:00

Thanks everyone. It was a fantastic surprise. I didn't even have an inkling.

Jay, there's nothing wrong with an Avensis. I like them but the one we had was quite old so now it belongs to someone who recently passed her driving test.

Congratulations to your son on the swimming test. I remember when my son got his first certificate! :0)

Today we are celebrating the 1.000th photo in our gallery.
This is the "winner":

Having over 1.000 photos online here makes this by far our largest and most important gallery worldwide. It still feels just great to be part of the RGB ride :)

Congrats for your 1000th sweet image.
(Sultanas are my favourites, btw)

11. xymonau19 March 2011, 14:00 GMT +01:00

Well done, Michael! Yes, RGB will continue to grow, and in five years time, I believe we will have a very large following worldwide.

12. Abyla19 March 2011, 14:06 GMT +01:00

In Spain we celebrate " Fathers day " today so I've received a little donation from my wife for my future lens and five drawings with plenty red hearts and flowers from my two daughters. I cannot ask for more.

13. xymonau20 March 2011, 0:17 GMT +01:00

That's lovely, Javier! In Australia, Father's Day is in September.

I am very happy to have reached the 10,000 download mark. I wonder how long it will take to double that? Lusi already has! LOL

14. Ayla8720 March 2011, 8:54 GMT +01:00

Thanks for your nice feedback, Javier and Dez. :)

Javier, I didn't know that father's day is celebrated on very very different dates all over the world. Here you can find out more about it - and about the traditions on this occasion in several countries:

Dez, 10.000 DLs are a great and well deserved achievement. And there will be many more ...

@1 Freelander 4x4 with the wolf at the wheel !!!? Aaaaaargh ! Glad I'm at the other end of the UK. Give us fair warning if you are down this end Lynne, we'll keep the roads (and fields) clear for you :0)

dankjewel

:D

24. weirdvis24 March 2011, 11:15 GMT +01:00

It's good to see so much celebration going on. :D

Congrats to Michael for his 1000th image online.

Javier, let's hope that lens is in your near future.

Big WOW to Dez's 10,000 downloads. Well deserved.

Groningen you are building a fine gallery.

Phil, the Landie is racking up what miles I can afford (getting dearer by the flipping minute!) but there's an unforseen consequence. My other half is smitten with it too so I now have Land Rover pr0n joining Private Eye and Fortean Times in the bathroom...

25. xymonau24 March 2011, 12:23 GMT +01:00

Thank you, Lynne.

Typical man - give a gift so they can use it, too! LOL
